While walking through Wal-Mart today, Melissa and I recalled exactly what we were doing on that day, it was almost like i was telling her what i had done just that previous day, even though it is 7 years ago that this happened.
I was abruptly woken up by my mom, saying that something terrible had happened in New York. I knew it was much too early to get ready for school, but i drug my heavy legs to the living room to find the T.V. buzzing already, it was so early for the news crew to be frantic, as i watched on, i realized the images weren't taking place in a far off land, but right here in our country, we were under attack. The oddest feeling overcame my body. I wasn't sure if it was fear or anger, or both, but i remember at that moment, knowing nothing would ever be the same.
I regretfully watched the twin towers, the Pentagon and a field in Pennsylvania come apart, due to those terrorists, people that had no pride for this land as i did, who didn't care about the countless lives they stole away from their families, and what would stop them from taking over everything, we were under attack, that thought was so relevant, that even as i went to school, we discussed the possibility of war on our "turf". So much fear, terror and angry rippled through my body in that one day, even looking back on my memories those feeling build up again.
There is so much more that happened on that day, that fade into one memory, its hard to realize this happened 7 years ago. That event shaped our country, shaped who each of us are, and brought a country together, when all it was doing was being torn apart.
When your kids ask you..."Why is this day so special in our countries history...?" you will be able to dig into your own memory bank and tell them of how our country, despite everything came together as a rock solid force, we are a part of history friends...may we never forget.
